President Goodluck Jonathan has deployed hundreds of gun-wielding soldiers on the streets of Lagos in a desperate bid to forestall peaceful protests scheduled to continue today.
The Armed Soldiers have occupied the streets of Lagos...from Ojuelegba to Ikorodu Rd to Ojota, many parts of Ikeja and Lagos Island. They are everywhere. About 16 check points and barricades have been mounted around the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota which served as a major gathering point for protesters.
Labour leaders and civil society activists delivered speeches in the park as well as hosting artistes’ performances.
The Gani Fawehinmi Park, renamed freedom park is visibly deserted due to the intimidating military presence.
